Tucked in the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard, in the Historic West Side of Las Vegas, is a restaurant called Darla’s Southern Cajun Bistro.
This Las Vegas quaint gem offers some of the most mouth-watering and delectable food in the 702, and it’s our last business that we want to highlight for this year’s Black History Moments Presented by Southwest Gas.
The restaurant is named after the matriarch of the family-owned restaurant, Darlene Washington. The executive chef, Albert D. Washington, opened the eatery to honor his mother, Darla.
The restaurant, located at 1100 N M.L.K. Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89106, brings together the cuisine of traditional Cajun cuisine and comforting, Southern-loved foods that will make any patron leave with their stomach filled, with their hearts happy and with a smile on their face.
And her legacy lives on through the immaculate-tasting cuisine that Chef Albert and his family provide to anyone who walks through the door. When you enter the doors of Darla’s Kitchen, you’re treated with warmth, kindness and hospitality. Everything on the menu is amazing, and each item warms the soul.

Chef Washington is a Las Vegas native who started his career at the Marino Hotel and Casino, according to his biography. From his humble beginnings as a busboy, he eventually worked his way up to line cook and then assistant banquet chef. From there, Chef Washington ended up managing the culinary operations of 11 restaurants, 23 chefs, and over 400 food and beverage employees.
Along with being a business owner and community leader, Chef Washington has cooked for various celebrities such as Bobby Brown, Howard Hewitt, Salt & Pepper, Steve Harvey, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson — just to name a few .
