DJ Thump paid a recent visit to a true hero, Army Veteran Gerald Boga.
To continue honoring our veterans, Mattress Firm and Helping a Hero have partnered together to provide active-duty troops with specially chosen mattresses to help them improve their quality of life. For us, Veterans Day extends far from its one designated “calendar” date.
Gerald Boga has always been the type to seize life by the horns and forge his own path. He was only 16 when he joined the Army. He was so young, in fact, that his mother had to sign off permission for him to go, but he knew in his heart of hearts that this is what he wanted to do. That’s the type of person he is — determined, honorable and fiercely protective.
He gave his all to defend his country — and succeeded. His sacrifice did not come without costs, however. For years, Gerald has struggled with the physical effects of the injuries sustained during his time in service. He was exposed to Agent Orange during his time in Panama and Nicaragua, which has caused ongoing health problems. Due to the expenses associated with his critical care, he has not been able to afford the new mattress that his doctors say is essential to relieving his chronic pain.
Until now, that is. Thanks to the lovely people at Mattress Firm and Helping a Hero, Gerald was delivered a brand-new Tempur-Pedic mattress!
During the week of Nov. 14, Mattress Firm, in partnership with Helping a Hero, will be delivering new mattresses to 30 active-duty service members. First Night Home is a campaign meant to provide veterans with the comfort they deserve. It’s a small token of appreciation to the people who have helped protect us all. It’s our turn to give back. Mattress Firm and Helping a Hero are making that a reality.
