About
Jammin’ 105.7’s Black History Moments:
Presented By Southern Nevada Health District
Fueled By Southwest Gas
February is Black History Month, and we’re celebrating our history, our stories and our triumphs.
This month, the team at Jammin’ 105.7 is dedicating each week in February to feature a Black leader, a Black-owned business and African American history in Las Vegas. Without the sacrifices, fearlessness, inventions and accomplishments of the Black community, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
Join us as we celebrate Black History Month on the air and on the web. As we take this month to chronicle the Black American experience, we ask our listeners to take a moment and to remember the history, accomplishments and jubilation of our community.

Southern Nevada Health District is Nevada’s helping hand in making a happy, healthy and inclusive community. According to their website, their mission is, “to assess, protect, and promote the health, the environment, and the well-being of Southern Nevada communities, residents and visitors.” The district started their Vegas journey in the early 60’s to provide safety, resources and education for locals.

‘About Southwest Gas
For over 90 years, Southwest Gas has been a leading energy provider, contributing to local economies and enriching the communities across its service territories in Nevada, Arizona, and California. The Company’s mission is to enrich the lives of its customers and employees and further its vision of being an exceptional employer and a safe and sustainable energy service provider of choice that positively impacts the communities it serves.
In advancing these goals, Southwest Gas remains committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture, as it is integral to the growth of the organization, its employees and partners, and the overall well-being of the community. Southwest Gas believes that diversity makes us stronger and enables the Company to better serve its customers with excellence.
Diversity in Action
Southwest Gas demonstrates its commitment to diversity through action and infuses diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) into every aspect of the organization — from its inclusive and welcoming work environment and investments with diverse community partners to serving as an ambassador of social justice and having a portfolio of suppliers that include businesses owned by women, minorities, people with disabilities, veterans, and individuals from the LGBTQ community.
With more than 2,300 employees and 45% of its employees representing diverse backgrounds (gender, age, and ethnicity), Southwest Gas is continuing to build a workplace culture that gives all employees a sense of belonging and celebrates differences. The Company has four DE&I commitments: data transparency, evolving the talent pipeline, cultural training, and partnership development. Additionally, Southwest Gas empowers its leaders with the skills necessary to grow and nurture diverse teams, helping them demonstrate empathetic leadership, and celebrate the differences encountered in the workforce and community each day. There are also Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) — such as ELEVATE, the African Americans & Allies ERG — that promote DE&I within the business and are led by employees that share common experiences in areas including ethnic heritage, gender identities, or abilities.
Opportunities for All
Southwest Gas is proud of the relationships it has with its diverse community of business partners, as it has a rich history of extending opportunities to enterprising individuals from all backgrounds. For more than 30 years, the Company has been partnering with diverse-owned businesses through its Supplier Diversity Program, fostering sustainable business relationships and ensuring equity in the procurement process and throughout its supply chain. Last year, Southwest Gas allocated over $168 million to diverse suppliers, further strengthening the economy and building a more sustainable energy future.
As we celebrate the history and honor the countless contributions African Americans have made in this country, Southwest Gas is proudly championing diversity, building an inclusive culture, exceeding expectations, and doing its part to create a more equitable future for all.
