Stevie Wonder Turns 70 Years Old Today
After all of the music and entertainment legends that we’ve lost over the past few years, we are blessed to have Stevie Wonder still with us. Stevie celebrates his 70th birthday today. Known as ‘The Genius,” Stevie Wonder got his moniker when he first came to Motown in the early 60’s at the age of 11. Someone who observed Stevie play the piano like a virtuoso, then pound the drum kit, then pull out a harmonica and play like a veteran, then play the organ said “boy, he sure is a wonder!” He was known early in his career as “Little Stevie Wonder” and had a number one hit at the age of 13 with “Fingertips,” becoming the youngest artist ever to have a number one single. Stevie’s hits are too many to name or count. He’s sold over 100 million records and has won 25 Grammy awards. To ask someone “what’s your favorite Stevie Wonder song?” would probably be an exercise in futility as his hits are so numerous that most of his true fans have a list of favorites and can’t pick just one. But if you asked me “if you were stranded on a desert island and could only have music by one artist, who would it be?” my answer without a doubt would be Stevie Wonder. Happy Birthday Stevie!
