Wounded LV Police Officer Remains In Critical Condition, Suspect Arrested
Las Vegas Metro Police officer Shay K. Mikalonis remains in critical condition after being shot in the head on Tuesday night during confrontations between police and protesters on the Strip near Circus Circus Hotel. Police arrested a suspect, 20 year old Edgar Samaniego of Las Vegas. Fellow police officers, family, friends and residents are holding vigil at UMC, where Officer Mikalonis is hospitalized, reportedly on life support and in grave condition. The suspect was arrested after surveillance video showed him firing shots at LVMPD officers during the melee on Tuesday night. There was a largely peaceful protest last night as around 200 protesters gathered on the campus of UNLV. At least 100 Metro police officers were on hand to maintain order and only one small incident was reported. The community continues to pray for Officer Mikalonis.
