Travis Scott Settles Two Astroworld Lawsuits: Report
Travis Scott has reportedly settled at least two lawsuits following the devasting Astroworld tragedy that left 10 dead and dozens injured last November.
On Thursday (Oct. 20), gossip site TMZ reported that Travis Scott has settled out of court with the family of Axel Acosta, a 21-year-old man who lost his life at the concert. Acosta traveled from Washington state to attend the festival and later died from injuries he suffered in the crowd. The amount of the settlement has not been disclosed and while the family has also sued Live Nation and others. The outlet reports that Live Nation will be paying the settlement.
Houston attorney Tony Buzbee announced the settlement involving the family of Acosta:
“The claims brought by the family of Axel Acosta against Travis Scott, Live Nation, Apple, and others involved in the Astroworld tragedy have settled,” Buzbee told local news outlet ABC13. “The terms are confidential. Victim Axel Acosta was a beloved son, brother, and student. He will be greatly missed. Axel Acosta didn’t have to die. We hope that this lawsuit and settlement will bring much-needed change in the way concerts are planned, permitted, organized, and executed, to make such events safer for all concerned.”
Additionally, attorneys familiar with the cases told ABC13, the family of Brianna Rodriguez – a 16-year-old from Houston Heights also settled their case. Details on Rodriguez’s settlement have been also made confidential.
Acosta and Rodriguez’s settlements are the first arising from the deadly Astroworld festival on Nov. 5, 2021.
Travis broke his silence on the tragedy to Charlamagne Tha God about a month after it occurred.
“I’ve been on different types of emotions, an emotional rollercoaster, I mean. It gets so hard because, you know, I always feel connected with my fans,” he said. “I went through something and I feel like fans went through something and people’s parents went through something. And it really hurts. It hurts the community, it hurts the city. There’s been a lot of thoughts, a lot of feelings, a lot of grieving, and just trying to wrap my head around it.”
