If you believe the song is correct, “Last night a DJ saved my life,” then you are celebrating today! Jan. 20 is National DJ Day!
Whether it is the DJ on the radio, the DJ from your first high school dance, the DJ from your wedding or the DJ at your favorite local Las Vegas nightclub, DJs are the keepers of the heart beat of the music we move to. They orchestrate the event or party by creating the vibe that help us forget the stress in our lives.
Today we celebrate National DJ Day! We celebrate them all, the on-air radio DJs that get you to and from work and inform you about traffic issues or breaking news. And the turntable assassins in the lounges and clubs you go to.
I have had the honor to be both an on-air personality and a spinning in the clubs DJ back before you could access music digitally. Back when we carried crates of records and mixed on technique turntables. Today, because of the digital evolution in DJ-ing, all you need is a good laptop and some serious skills and a groove that the masses want to move to. Being a DJ today can also lead to travelling the world, experiencing many different facets of entertainment and makes you a nice living.
According to Wealthy Gorilla, when it comes to the music business, DJs probably aren’t the first people you think of having all the riches. After all, with the likes of Dr. Dre, Eminem, Jay-Z, Ice Cube and so on, nothing else quite stacks up.
However, you might be surprised by some of the money these DJs are pulling in!
