Colors Of Lupus Nevada held their 8 Annual Colors Of Lupus Nevada 5K Walk filled with resilience, story time and entertainment. Many gathered on the track field of the Pearson Community Center, located in North Las Vegas to walk the world purple. Vendors, food trucks and music welcomed walkers into the event making it inviting. Survivor and brave warrior, Autumn Austin, hosted the event bringing the community together for a serious cause.
Despite the weather getting a bit windy near the end, we stuck it out to honor our love ones alive and past. The event happened on Saturday, May 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The annual event is held at dawn due to the harmful sun rays which can cause inflammation for some battling the disease. Colors Of Lupus 5k Walk honored our beloved Sandee Bonita who passed away from Lupus three days short of her 33 birthday.
Autumn spoke kind words about our Spanglish radio star, “Thank you guys for letting us honor her. Thank you guys for sharing her with the community. Her story will never die.” Autumn quoted Sandee’s saying, “If it’s easy, I don’t want it. Because there’s beauty in the struggle” which emphasized Sandee’s work ethic, courage and strength.
We will forever miss Sandee and her effervescent personality. She was truly one in a million and deserved so much more. She was compassionate and was always thinking of others. Thank you to the Madrid family. We will continue to do our part in raising awareness about Lupus, participate in Lupus events and keep Sandee’s story alive.
