Comedian and late-night television host Jay Leno returns to Las Vegas for a one-night performance at the Encore Theater inside The Wynn this Friday, March 31. It’s been roughly 4 years since the last time Leno entertained audiences on the Strip.
Leno hosted NBC‘s The Tonight Show from 1992 to 2009 before turning the reins over to former Saturday Night Live actor/comedian Jimmy Fallon, however, he stated in a “60 Minutes” interview that it wasn’t his decision.
Rather than retire and sit on a porch all day, Leno has continued working by performing over 100 stand-up comedy shows a year, voicing animated characters for television and theatrical releases as well as producing and hosting the CNBC primetime series “Jay Leno’s Garage” which allows Leno to showcase his love of cars.
Pitbull appeared as a guest on the show late last year.
In addition, Leno reteamed with his former Tonight Show Music Director Kevin Eubanks to host the revamped game show “You Bet Your Life” which was recently renewed for a 3rd season.
The news of Leno‘s return to Vegas got me reminiscing over some very memorable moments from his Tonight Show days. Obviously, the numerous performances by Prince on the show over the years are forever etched in my brain but the ‘Security Guard Prank’ Leno played on him was priceless. If you’re unfamiliar with it, listen to Leno share the story with fellow comedian Bill Maher down below.
Years before he claimed his title as one of the greatest comedians of our time, Dave Chappelle made an appearance on the show as a guest street-reporter. You can watch the video below.
Lastly, another top moment from the Tonight Show for me is Gwen Stefani and her group No Doubt performing music from what would be their last studio album ‘Push and Shove’.
