Thump In The Morning

We’re officially one month into summer vacation! And if your teen have a summer jobs, they’re a month into new experiences filled with new benefits. Outside of the obvious financial gain, summer jobs help build independence, confidence and a positive impact on your teen’s growth toward adulthood.

Teens are use to getting direction from their parents and teachers, But having a boss is a different experience. Showing up on time, handling the job requirements, working with others will help teens develop into responsible young adults.

Having a summer job is a great way for teens to become more independent, both financially and otherwise. Earning their own money gives them a sense of spending freedom, which presents an opportunity to teach them money management, not to mention it keeps them out of unwanted trouble.

Giving them the confidence they need to succeed in life makes them feel more independent, and proud of having their own money. All of these things make teens feel better about themselves.

Having a summer job is a great way for teens to grow their skills and belief in what they’re capable of, which sets them up for a positive start to the new school year.

A good job can give your teen valuable insight into what they may want to do after high school. They may discover they enjoy working with people or they might decide that they want to own a business. If nothing else, a part-time job gives your teen valuable work experience that they can list on future job applications. This helps both their college and employment resumes.

According to HBR.ORG “as of July 2018, the U.S. unemployment rate for teens remains high at 13.1% — more than twice the rate of any other group.”
