Biggie’s Crown Fetches A King’s Ransom
When it comes to rap music, the stories people in New York tell always include Notorious B.I.G. being the “King of Rap.”
There are a lot of photos, wall art, and more with Biggie wearing a crown. He was arguably one of the greatest rappers of all time.
Well, it seems that someone else agrees with that assessment. That Christopher Wallace was the King of Rap and wanted the crown that adorned their king, really…really badly.
Yesterday, at Sotheby’s in New York, someone bought the famous royal crown and paid a King’s Ransom for it…nearly $600,000. The price of royalty was exactly $594, 750. Ironically, in England one can buy a royal title for just under $8,000 US.
It just goes to show, people, aren’t necessarily looking to be royalty (in this case) as much as they wanted a piece of Hip Hop history.
In reality, the crown is made of plastic, however, it bears Biggie’s signature as well as that of the photographer who did the shoot (Barron Claibourne) on it.
It goes to show how little many people unfamiliar with the rap world know. It had been predicted to sell for somewhere between $200,000 and $300,00.
It’s possible that the crown’s value increased because it had been worn by Biggie at the photoshoot just three days before he was killed.
Rap. In. Peace.
