Lakers Survive, Advance
LeBron James tallied 30 points and 10 rebounds as the L.A. Lakers rallied from a late 15 point deficit and came back to top Minnesota in overtime 108-102 on Tuesday night in L.A.
Anthony Davis added 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Lakers and teammate Dennis Schroeder added 21 points off the bench.
L.A. with the win becomes the seventh seed in the Western Conference and advances to a best 3-of-5 series against second seeded Memphis starting on Sunday.
The Lakers trailed most of Tuesday’s night’s game including being behind by double digits midway through the fourth quarter but Minnesota suddenly went cold as the L.A. defense tightened. The T’Wolves went scoreless for six minutes in the fourth quarter as L.A. gained momentum. Dennis Schroeder completed the Lakers’ comeback by drilling a three pointer from the corner on a pass from LeBron James, giving L.A. a three point lead with 1.4 seconds left in regulation. On the ensuing play however, Anthony Davis fouled Minnesota’s Mike Conley on a three point attempt and Conley sank all three free throws to send the game into overtime.
L.A. outscored Minnesota 10-4 in the extra period including two free throws from Schroeder with 8.4 seconds left to seal the comeback win.
Sunday’s opening game against Memphis will be at noon PDT.
