Nevada City Ranks Among The Best Dog Park Cities
Every dog owner hopes to have a great dog park close to their home. A place where their dogs can romp freely, chasing balls, making new four-legged pals, and leaving paw prints on the hearts of everyone they encounter. LawnStarter uncovered the top cities for dog parks in 2023, just in time for National Lost Pet Prevention Month in July. They compared 98 of the biggest U.S. cities based on access, quality, and climate. More specifically, they factored in the number of dog parks per 100,000 two-legged residents, visitor ratings, and historical weather data, among eight total metrics.
Las Vegas makes it into the top 10 for best dog park city.
Coming in at No. 8 on the list of best dog park cities is Las Vegas. The study recognized the city for its excellent access to dog parks and its overall quality. However, when it comes to climate, Las Vegas didn’t fare as well, receiving lower marks. Above Las Vegas, you’ll find Henderson ranking in at spot number 3.
Their ranking of the top 10 cities showcases a blend of large and small East and West Coast destinations that reign supreme. Among these is Boise, Idaho, claiming the No. 1 spot, followed closely by San Francisco at No. 2. Other notable cities in the mix include Arlington, Virginia, ranking at No. 5, and New York City at No. 6. These cities offer quality dog parks. However, it’s worth noting that their climates may vary, with some not necessarily ideal for our four-legged pals.
The study showed that half of the bottom ten cities on their list are located in the South, with Garland, Texas, landing in last place. The other five cities are scattered across the Midwest and coasts, including Cleveland at No. 97, Santa Clarita, California at No. 91, and Newark, New Jersey at No. 90. Unfortunately, these cities have limited access, particularly when it comes to top-notch dog parks. They also tend to have some of the least dog-friendly climates says the study. However, there are a few exceptions in the bunch.

Fastest Dogs In The World
Imagine walking your lovable dog down your favorite stretch of road, when a car alarm suddenly catches your attention. In the second it takes to glance at the commotion, your furry best friend jolts, yanking the leash from your hand. By the time you turn around and begin to run, the dog is already halfway down the block, and you realize you may need a bike or even a car to catch up, depending on the breed.
This scenario can be nightmare fuel for some, but it’s a common occurrence experienced by almost all pet owners at some point. This makes it all the more important to understand a dog’s breed before taking on the responsibility of caring for and training a canine friend.
Often, dogs that can run at high speeds were originally bred for hunting and herding purposes, including the Border Collie and Anatolian Shepherd, which both excel at agility and speed, and require vigorous exercise to expend their extra energy.
Consider this: The top speed a human has reached is 27.5 miles per hour, achieved by Olympian Usain Bolt during his record-breaking 100-meter sprint in 2009. That’s about the minimum speed for a dog to even make this list—we begin with the Boston terrier, with a top speed of 25 miles per hour, and end with the famous running breed the greyhound, with a top speed of 45 miles per hour. These dogs can run flat out for longer than humans, to boot.
Stacker ranked 23 dog breeds by top speed, using data from the American Kennel Club, Vetstreet, and World’s Fastest Dogs, to help better understand your energetic companion.
