Las Vegas Aces Clinch Playoff Spot Early
The Las Vegs Aces are firing on all cylinders. Leading the WNBA with a 24-2 record. The defending champions gave the Atlanta Dream a Vegas nightmare by beating them 93-72 and securing a spot in the playoffs.
Jackie Young scored 24 points, A’ja Wilson added 20 points with 11 rebounds and Kierstan Bell finished with a career high 15 points adding to the lead with a 3 pointer on back to back possessions early in the fourth quarter.
Las Vegas Aces won eight straight games to become the second team in WNBA history to start a season 24-2, joining the 1998 Houston Comets. There’s still a little more than 14 regular season games before the playoffs start.
The Aces are playing great basketball together. According to foxsports.com The defending champs are first overall averaging 94.4 points per game.
The only setback the Las Vegas Aces has faced is the loss of Candace Parker to a broken foot. But the team has gone 8-0 in her absence and could have her back by the time the playoffs begin.
The defending champs are on track for that No. 1 seed, with a four-game lead on the second place New York Liberty.
A’ja wilson for the 2nd time this season was awarded Western Conference player of the month. With her 56th career double double that puts her in 5th place on the WNBA list for doubles doubles.
The Aces are chasing a back to back title which hasn’t been done since the 2002 Los Angeles Sparks, lead by Tamecka Dixon, DeLisha Milton-Jones, Lisa Leslie, Mwadi Mabika and Nikki Teasley.
Winning 18 straight home games, the Aces are tied for fourth for the longest streak in WNBA history with 90 plus points in 20 of their 26 games. The Aces are on fire and it seems as if no one can extinguish the flame. If this team can keep the chemistry they have now, they can actually win multiple championships. the 1998 Houston Comets with Sheryl swoops , Tina Thompson , Cynthia cooper still holds the record of four straight championships.
