Raiders Fans vs. Everybody
Raider Nation is global. But since moving to Las Vegas, fans from other teams have overtaken Raiders home games and seemingly wash out Raider fans.
There could be a few reasons why:
1. Las Vegas is a melting pot: People from all over the world come to Vegas for excitement or to move. Being that Las Vegas hasn’t had a NFL team before, many locals already were enamored with the Dallas Cowboys, LA Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and more.
2. Transplanted or relocated fans: Some fans may have originally been from Oakland or the surrounding area. But, the great exodus of California have created a migration of Cali transplants to other states and cities. These fans may still have a strong affiliation with the Raiders and take the opportunity to attend games when the team is playing near their current place of residence. But, going to Las Vegas is an expensive trek.
3. High demand for tickets: The Raiders home games often draw large crowds, which increases the demand for tickets. Due to their popularity, tickets for home games may be difficult for local fans to obtain, leading to a higher proportion of visiting fans attending the games. Plus, the tickets are some of the most expensive in the NFL. According to TouchDownWire, the average 2023 ticket price for the Las Vegas Raiders is $573.
4. Travel Opportunities: The Las Vegas location of the Raiders may also provide an attractive travel destination for the opposing team’s fans. The city has a reputation for being a popular tourist spot, and fans may take the opportunity to combine their support for their team with a vacation or a weekend getaway, further boosting the number of visiting fans at Raider home games. And let’s face it. With the price of parking for locals, the actual logistics of getting into the stadium and the other costs associated before even stepping foot into the stadium, it’s no doubt that many locals rather stay home.
It’s worth noting that the presence of opposing fans at games is not unique to the Raiders organization. Many sports teams experience similar situations, especially those with national or international followings. Additionally, the presence of opposing fans can add to the atmosphere and excitement of the games. According to statista.com “In 2022, the Las Vegas Raiders recorded an average home attendance of 62,045 spectators.”
It seems like the jersey color doesn’t matter. Money green is the winning color at Raidershome games.
