If You Fail To Plan You Plan To Fail
Plan with your child on how you will celebrate the accomplishment. Last-minute planning often turns into a nightmare. There’s nothing worse than scrambling to try and put something together at the last minute. Remember your child is not the only one graduating, so if you are planning a celebration dinner at a restaurant, you might want to get early reservations to avoid the headache of getting everyone in and seated without waiting a lifetime for a table.
Develop a transition plan. All academic transitions should be planned from kindergarten through college. Talk with your child about what to expect at the next stage and how they will manage their new environment. Seek outside resources including other parents, and academic mentors
Don’t Embarrass Yourself And Those Around You
I know you are very proud of your child and you want everyone to know that he/she belongs to you, but you might want to refrain from yelling out their name or bringing bull horns to the ceremony. Also, discuss what you will be wearing to the graduation, I mean that club outfit could be quite inappropriate and embarrassing. (Who’s mama is that?)
If your child is planning on doing crazy and unexpected things at the ceremony, this could result in major embarrassment. If it’s kept simple, you can avoid falling or hurting yourself and or your feelings. Here are a couple of things that can happen if you are trying to do too much.
The bottom line is to remember this is just as important as a wedding ceremony. It is an academic achievement that should be celebrated and remembered as a beautiful moment in your child’s journey through life.
