Boy Scouts Are Changing Their Name After 114 Years
The Boy Scouts of America is changing its name to “Scouts of America” to be less exclusive and more inclusive. The intention is to reflect the organization’s ongoing commitment to welcome every youth and family in America to experience the benefits of Scouting. The name change is expected to go into effect on February 8, 2025, on the 115th anniversary.
Boy Scouts Has Been A Staple For Young Men
I remember becoming a Cub Scout and being promoted to Boy Scout. The camping trips, and learning how to bond with other young boys was exciting. learning how to fish, and start a campfire. The pride in wearing the uniform and just being able to relate to other growing pains we shared as boys.
We were not allowed to go up the hill and fraternize with the girls who were just a few hikes away. But the excitement of trying was worth getting caught.
I understand the attempt to be inclusive, but I can’t help but wonder why the Girl Scouts get to continue being exclusive. Is it because boys are not to be trusted with boxes of Thin Mint cookies? They are really the bomb by the way. But that’s not the point!

Why Are They Changing The Name
According to AP News “The new name puts a focus on inclusivity” Which makes it sound as if the organization is making this bold altruistic gesture. But, the article continues to state that the numbers dropped tremendously during the pandemic.
So in other words we didn’t have enough players on the flag football team, so we should let the girls play. No offense to these young princesses’ but boys would be boys, and they are better off not being exposed to the locker room conversations.
If the organization truly is focusing on inclusivity so that no one feels excluded, that’s one thing. But to rebrand just to open the doors for more bodies because you lost some of your own is a different story. Call it what it is.
And as a former Boy Scout, the boys club was a big part of my growing up as a young man in this country. So, artist formerly known as Boy Scouts of America, instead of taking players from other teams, how about you get a new coach and figure out what went wrong on your own field? And that’s Scout’s Honor!
