Floyd Mayweather Jr. Can’t Beat Mental Health
Floyd Mayweather Jr., nicknamed “Money,” is considered one of the best boxers ever. He was born into a boxing family in 1977 and started boxing at a young age. As an amateur, he won many awards, including an Olympic medal. I still remember him as “Pretty Boy” Floyd.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. Successful Career
A defining moment came when Mayweather lost as an amateur and cried on TV. Since then, he has never lost another boxing match. He became a professional boxer in 1996 and quickly became famous for being really good. He was super fast, accurate, and great at dodging punches. He won all of his fights (50 in total!) in different weight categories. I’m a HUGE boxing and professional combat sports fan, so I KNOW this.

Many people do not like his style because they think he runs, but in theory, isn’t the objective to win and not take much damage? Floyd “Money” Mayweather was excellent at that. Methodically beating his opponents and saying it’s not a mark on his face, then heading straight to the club to celebrate! My most memorable Money fights were De La Hoya, and Zab Judah, which I feel were his toughest fights ever that he could have lost.
Judah started well but faded down the stretch and lost in 12 rounds. Many thought De La Hoya beat Mayweather. Even as I go back and watch, I can see how Oscar should have won it. But punch totals and rounds went to The Pretty Boy!
Money Mayweather: Love Him Or Hate Him
Mayweather is known for showing off his wealth, talking trash to opponents, and having a dramatic personal life. This has made some people love him and others dislike him. He’s also a smart businessman and made a ton of money from endorsements and his own businesses.
Even though he officially retired in 2017, he’s done a few exhibition matches for fun and money. People still talk about how great of a boxer he was, as well as how he changed the business side of the sport. According to Mayweatherfranchise.com “While winning fights in the ring, Floyd was disrupting the business of boxing outside of it. Creating his own promotion company, Mayweather Promotions.”
The Fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. Couldn’t Win
Floyd recently posted about his mental health declining due to Boxing and hits he has taken to the head. Money Mayweather made a statement to Telecomasia.net that memory loss, maybe it’s an echo of a long career in boxing, or maybe it’s something hereditary. Sciencedirect.com reports Dementia pugilistica or ‘punch drunk’ syndrome is a form of acquired cognitive impairment that occurs in up to a fifth of professional boxers. This may cause brain damage and or memory loss.
Roger Mayweather, a two-weight world champion boxer who helped his nephew, Floyd Mayweather jr, become one of the greatest fighters of all time, died after a lengthy battle with diabetes. He also battled brain trauma and kidney disease at the age of 58. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Association of Boxing commissions make fighters wear protective headgear. However, that would definitely change how fans view the sport.
Every boxing fan would admit that they would love to see a fighter get knocked out. But no one takes into consideration the damage it causes these athletes in the long run. The number of boxers who have died as a result of the sport is not known. But one thing is for certain, you can play football, basketball, and even tennis, but I have never heard of anyone playing Boxing!
My prayers go up to one of the greatest fighters of all time. Floyd “Money” Mayweather!
