The community of Las Vegas turned the streets of Downtown into corridors of pure celebration for the city’s annual MLK parade on Jan. 16.
This parade is a Las Vegas tradition with the efforts being spearheaded by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee. This parade has been a tradition in the community since the ’80s. And this year’s theme was about “Living the Dream – It Starts with Me (Shifting Priorities to Create the Beloved Community.”
DJ Thump ensured that the parade was filled with great music and amazing energy. He DJed on the top of our official Jammin’ 105.7 parade truck, showering the MLK parade attendees and participants in great energy.
The parade started near 4th Street and Gass Avenue around 10 a.m., and Thump started by igniting the crowd and other parade participants with his hot mix of amazing songs that praised, honored and gave respect to Dr. King.
Along with Jammin’ 105.7, our sister station 102.7 VGS was also there and came to support the committee’s mission. The Raiders, MGM Grand, Pink Box Donuts, local schools, cheer teams, step teams all came together for this MLK parade, which electrified the streets of Downtown Las Vegas.
Beautiful parade floats glided down the streets, passing Fremont Street. People took their creativity to the next level, incorporating the theme and message behind the work of Dr. King.
As we celebrate the legacy of MLK, it’s equally as important to look toward the future to see what work needs to be done. DJ Thump has been involved in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade for over 15 years now to help keep Dr. King‘s dream alive. We are so thankful to see the Las Vegas community come together celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
