Having lived in Las Vegas for just under two years, I am still a “newbie” local and have quite a bit to experience what this great city has to offer. What better excuse to go all out than for my birthday!?

A few of my best friends flew in to town Monday night. We originally had plans to grab dinner at Fleming’s Steakhouse down at Town Square but we were all running behind so we moved on to our next planned activity, a flyover of Las Vegas in a Maverick helicopter.

I have only been in a helicopter once before in my life and it was years ago so I was a little nervous but our pilot “Buck” was a true pro. He had a great personality being able to be funny and personable while making sure everyone was comfortable.

The flight itself is about 15 minutes long. We lifted off from Maverick‘s terminal just south of Mandalay Bay and cruised high above the the city flying north towards The Stratosphere, Circa, and downtown. I highly recommend you do the tour whether you’re a tourist or local. The views are pretty amazing. Check out the video clip from my flight below.

We were all starving after the flight since we missed our earlier dinner reservation so I searched out some late-night dining. We drove to The Peppermill which is “supposedly” open until 11pm however the security guard chased us off outside at 10:30pm saying they closed early.

When in doubt, go with what you know. We ended up at the Grand Lux Cafe inside the Venetian which serves 24 hours.

Tuesday aka “Birthday” started off with lunch at Lindo Michoacan Restaurant in Summerlin. Amazing homemade tortillas and they have Mexican bottled Coca-Cola. The chips were really good which is a rarity at most restaurants and were served with salsa and beans. I’ll be going back.

Fast forward to 8pm. The moment we’ve all been waiting for… dinner at the famous Golden Steer Restaurant. I’ve been wanting to try this spot forever. I had only heard good reviews and the pictures on their Instagram are mouthwatering.

They make the caesar salad table-side and it is beyond amazing. I had the petite filet and lobster with a side of the twice-baked potato. My friends had the petite filet with crab legs with a side of the sauteed mushrooms and the seafood sampler. Long story short, we all agreed we were having the best meal of our lives.

Shout-out to all my fellow Libras out there. Hope you have as much fun on your birthday as I did on mine.
