I realize there are other parts of the country that are experiencing much rougher weather than we currently are here in Las Vegas but for a city better known for its scorching pool-side weather, this recent onslaught of rain has some of us all up in our feelings.
Luckily, there are only a handful of days left in the foreseeable future that may bring more of the wet stuff but while it’s here let’s break out some of my favorite songs about rain.
If you scroll down below you’ll find my personal Top 10 Songs About Rain that stretch over different genres of music and decades. Aside from Number One (which for those of you who know me will have no problem guessing what it is), I found it a little challenging to rate these great songs against each other.
Before we get into it, let me give an “Honorable Mention” to a song about rain that will forever be seared into my soul having heard it a million times growing up thanks to my mother. Singer B.J. Thomas released his version of “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head” in 1970 which remained a Number One song for 4 weeks.
Missy Elliott kicks off my Top 10 Songs About Rain with “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) from 1997. It was Missy‘s debut single and the music video caught everyone’s attention with her wild blow-up leather suit.
The only song without the word “rain” in the title but is an obvious choice for the list is “Umbrella” by Rihanna at Number 7.
It’s very inconspicuous but Janet Jackson makes the list at Number 4 having sung the background vocals for Herb Albert‘s “Makin’ Love In The Rain” released in 1987.
I would love to know just how well my favorites lined up with yours. Feel free to let me know on my Instagram page.
