Virginia Beach Shooting: 12 Dead, Shooter Killed by Police
Tragic reports out of Virginia Beach today as 12 people are dead after a shooting at the city’s Municipal Center Friday afternoon. Several people have also been reported as injured, and the shooter was killed by police.
Per The Virginian-Pilot, the shooting began around 4 PM. While the shooter’s identity has yet to be released to the public, they have been identified as a long-time employee of the public utilities department.
Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dwyer said in a statement, “This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach. The people involved are our friends, coworkers, neighbors and colleagues.”
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam said via Twitter, “This is a tragic day for Virginia Beach and our entire Commonwealth. My heart breaks for the victims of this devastating shooting, their families, and all who loved them. I am on my way to Virginia Beach now and will be there within the hour.”
