The Unicycle Is Illegal And Other Weird Las Vegas Laws
Everyone has heard the popular saying “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” I shouldn’t have to say this, but the motto doesn’t apply to arrest records. Those things WILL follow you! Just because our town has a reputation of being “Sin City” doesn’t mean you can’t get arrested for acting a fool. It’s wild how many people visit Las Vegas and forget that we actually do have laws here. And some of those laws are wackier than others!
But fret not, my fellow law abiding citizens! We want to make sure you don’t land yourself behind bars, or be stuck with any massive fines. So we’re here to guide you through some of the weirdest things that could get you in trouble in the city of lights.
Don’t Use Profanity On The Las Vegas Strip
This reminds me of that Randy Marsh meme from South Park, “I thought this was America!” But according to city municipal ordinance 10.40.030 colorful language can land you a nasty fine! And it sounds like it’s not just on the strip! According to the ordinance, foul or obscene language should not be used on any: city street, alleyway or highway. However, a police friend of mine (who prefers to remain anonymous) says this is a law that doesn’t get enforced too often. But just because it doesn’t get enforced often doesn’t mean it can’t be enforced!
Pawning While Intoxicated
If you’re trying to make a quick buck off some old stuff, you’ll need to be sober, according to NRS 646.060. If you comb through that, you’ll realize that Pawn shops actually have to abide by a bunch laws. I actually like this one, because we’re not at our best when we’re drunk. I imagine it’d be a nightmare, waking up after a bender, and realizing you pawned something really important to you.
Don’t Use These Childhood Toys On Fremont Street
If you’ve got a hula hoop, you better not bring it to Fremont! The same goes for unicycles. Las Vegas municipal code section 11.68.100 states that the toys don’t belong within the pedestrian mall. This makes sense, the mall gets very congested and either would definitely impede traffic.
