Las Vegas Aces Started The New Season Soaring
The two-time defending world champion Las Vegas Aces kicked off this season with an impressive win against the Phoenix Mercury 89-80 Tuesday night at Michelob Ultra Arena. At the game’s first timeout, the sell-out crowd of 10,419 in attendance was encouraged to sing along with “We Are The Champions” by Queen. That was the largest crowd for the Las Vegas Aces in franchise history.
Las Vegas Aces Soared With The Stars
A’ja Wilson and company sent a clear message that the Aces are coming to play again this season. With 30 points and 13 rebounds, Wilson seemed unstoppable. Jackie Young added 23 points and Kelsey Plum hit 19. I would guess the Las Vegas Aces were even more motivated to win after receiving their championship rings before the game started, and fans watched as the banner was unveiled, raised, and placed next to the 2022 championship banner.

The atmosphere shifted in the Ace’s favor quickly after the presentation, with a star-studded-filled arena. according to Marca.com “NFLĀ legendĀ Tom BradyĀ was in attendance for theĀ Aces’Ā season opener,” who recently acquired a minority stake in theĀ Las Vegas Aces. Ā
The Aces debuted their new silver and black uniforms, looking similar to the uniform colors of Davis’ other Las Vegas team, the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Stars Were In The Building
Mark Davis was joined by Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, punter AJ Coles, and Las Vegas Golden Knights goalie Logan Thompson.
The Las Vegas Aces rallied early with a 21-3 run with Wilson hitting 17 of those points, but the Mercury didn’t go out without a fight as they went into halftime down by only one point, with the score of 42-41.
Phoenix hit 8 of 17 from behind the arc with Diana Taurasi finishing with 23 points, Kaleah Cooper recording 19 points, and both Natasha Cloud and Rebecca Allen each finished with 14 points. Unfortunately for the Mercury, it wasn’t enough to give the Aces their first L for the season. Both teams suffered with injuries as Aces point guard Chelsea Gray is still recovering from a lower left leg injury suffered in last year’s WNBA Finals. Phoenix’s Brittney Griner is out for the season with a broken toe.
Regardless, The Las Vegas Aces are on a new mission with a new focus. “Let’s Go Aces!”
