Nevada Summer Weather: Will It Get Dangerously Hot?
Summer is on the way, and in Nevada, that can mean really, really hot temperatures. So, what’s to expect from this summer’s forecast? The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center has released its report for what they predict across the U.S. for weather this summer, and it’s an interesting mix, including the Nevada summer weather outlook.
The climate outlook is predicted for June through August. It shows that much of the lower 48 states and Alaska are expected to see a hotter than average summer. But, what about our state? Will Nevada be hotter than normal this season? Read on for the scoop.
The NOAA outlook, which they released Thursday (May 25), shows the most likely areas to get above average temperatures are across the Southwestern U.S. In the areas of New Mexico and Arizona, there’s a 60% to 70% likelihood of a warmer than average summer. From Texas up through the New England area, there’s about a 50% to 60% chance of warmer than average temperatures. As for precipitation, expect a drier summer for the Pacific Northwest and the Southwest. That’s bad news for drought conditions, of course. Meanwhile, the mid-and-lower Mississippi, Ohio Valley and the East and Gulf Coasts are expected to get more precipitation this season. It’s worth mentioning that the NOAA’s seasonal outlook does not predict the chance of extreme heat events or wildfires.
Nevada Summer Weather Outlook
Specifically, for the Nevada summer weather outlook, the seasonal outlook map shows hotter temperatures. For the full the state, there’s a 40% to 50% chance of a hotter summer. Las Vegas falls into that range, but it’s slightly closer to the mark of having a 50% to 60% chance of a hotter summer. It won’t necessarily be dangerous, but that depends on how hot it gets and the precipitation, of course. What’s interesting is that no states are projected to get colder than normal temperatures, according to this report.
