A Hidden Jewel Found In North Las Vegas Airport

Don't let this building fool you. There's a lot more than just airplanes and security inside. Sunshine And Tailwinds Cafe is right through these doors. Just look for the elevator when you get inside and take it upstairs.

North Las Vegas is unfamiliar to most tourists, they usually come for the lights, cameras, and a whole lot of action on the strip! Contrary to popular belief, some of the best entertainers and food spots are on the other side of the freeway: Henderson, Summerlin, Green Valley, the Historic West Side, and North Town.

What I Found In North Las Vegas

So my wife and I left church on Sunday and were looking for a different place to have breakfast. She googled “restaurants near me” and a place called Sunshine And Tailwinds Café caught our attention. She and I both agreed that we’d never been to North Las Vegas airport at all, let alone to eat.

We walked in and the atmosphere was amazing. There was history all over the walls. Showing the United States Army, and United States Air Force. And different types of airplanes. I had a chance to sit down and look at the menu and there were so many choices that my mouth began to water. I was ready to eat!

We both were wondering why we hadn’t heard of this place before. Especially because there were so many people there. The place was packed! I had the chance to sit down with the owner Tara Gilbert. She told me that the place had been open for over 20 years.

They started on Vegas Drive and Decatur. They were there for 15 years before they moved to the North Las Vegas Airport. Tara told me that it was a location they wanted to get into for years.

What To Order At Sunshine And Tailwinds Cafe

When asked about the specials, Tara said the Chicken Fried Steak was a must. Which is the dish I had ordered. It was a real top sirloin steak! Breaded and served with home potatoes, peppers, and onions. It also came with eggs and I chose the pancakes instead of toast. Because I love me some pancakes.

Another thing I love about this place is that it makes you put down your phone and pay attention to the person you’re having a meal with. It even offers conversation piece cards that bring us back to the old school days of sitting down and having a conversation at the table.

Texas Brings Historic Mexican Restaurant To Vegas

There’s nothing like a good Mexican Restaurant that serves good authentic Mexican food. El Jimador Mexican Restaurant originally opened their doors in Cypress, Texas over a decade ago.  Soon after, eight other restaurants were born in a variety of locations around the Houston, Texas area, and now in Las Vegas.

This restaurant has quickly earned its strips by serving great tasting and authentic Mexican food that’s family owned and highly respected.

According to eljimadorrestaurantgrill.com, “The Jimadores Mexican Grill and Bar in Houston, Tx. Started north of town in 2012, it is family-owned restaurant that has been serving Mexican-style food. With more than two decades of professional experience.”

In addition to serving great food, you can expect great service and a family-friendly environment. They have been growing every two years, putting themselves at your service and at the comfort of their customers.

El Jimador Mexican restaurant opened their 10th restaurant in January of 2023 right here in Las Vegas, located at 2040 N. Rainbow Blvd. 89108.

You know you are in the right place from the time you walk in the door.  The service is outstanding and the atmosphere is beyond peaceful.

Their four page menu is full of delicious looking items, making it very difficult or almost impossible to make a decision right away.

After eating there for the first time, I now see why this restaurant has grown to be a favorite in Houston.

They brought the chips and salsa with queso dip to start. And the chips were so warm and flaky — simply delicious.

I ordered the El Jimador- which is a Guacamole Salad, Chile Con Queso ,a Crispy Beef Taco, Chile Rellano, Cheese Enchilada, Tamale, Refried Beans and Spanish Rice and a Chile Con Queso Puff.

And for desert,  I had to try the Fried Ice Cream. Everything was absolutely delicious! Thank you El Jimador for such a great experience. I will definitely be back.
