Head Coach Continues To Lead Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders have truly seen their share of change when it comes to head coaches. A total of 12 head coaches since 2002. From Bill Callahan in 2002 to current interim head coach Antonio Pierce. With saying that, the Raiders have only made the playoffs twice since the 2003 season, in 2016 and 2021. According to statmuse.com, “The Las Vegas Raiders have 4 wins in the playoffs between January 2, 1999 and January 2, 2024.” Even though the Raiders are out of the playoffs this year, next year looks promising.
Antonio Pierce Deserves The Job
It’s definitely time for a positive change, and it looks like current interim head coach Antonio Pierce has what it takes to shift the atmosphere in Raider Nation’s favor. Ever since Mark Davis fired former head coach Josh McDaniels mid-season with a 3-5 record and promoted linebacker coach Antonio Pierce as the interim head coach, The Las Vegas Raiders has been playing with a new passion. Pierce immediately made a few changes of his own by benching QB Jimmy Garoppolo and giving the rookie Aiden O’Connell out of Purdue a chance to shine.
He also signed CB Jack Jones whom he coached in high school at Long Beach Poly and at Arizona State. Jones said in an interview with Raiders News Wire, “He’s thankful for the relationship he has with Pierce, calling him a mentor and father figure.” Antonio Pierce had a very successful nine year career in the NFL. Recording 137 regular season games and seven playoff games with the Washington Redskins in 2001-04, and the New York Giants 2005-09. He earned a Pro Bowl position in 2006 and won a Superbowl ring with the New York Giants in 2007.
Raiders Go To The Top With Antonio Pierce
Since Pierce took over in week nine The Raiders has ranked amongst the top teams in the NFL in several statistical categories. First in points allowed with only 15.3, first in defensive TDs with four, first in penalties with 24, fifth in sacks with 24, and of course a historically high-scoring beat down in their 63-21 victory over the division rival Los Angeles Chargers.
I truly believe I can speak on behalf of Raider Nation… “Give Antonio Pierce the job as head coach of the Silver and Black.” And let’s bring back that Raider Pride! “Just Win Baby”
