Josh Jacobs May Be Saying GoodBye To Las Vegas For Good
A decision regarding Josh Jacobs signing an extension contract has not been made as of yet. Even though the all pro running back stated he wanted to be a Raider for life, He also stated It has to make sense.
The Raiders couldn’t reach a deal by the July 17 deadline. Jacobs has not signed the franchise tag which possibly lead to a hold out for the 2023 season. Jacobs can miss all of the O.T.A. (organized team activities) without being fined. however the Raiders could rescind his franchise tag and completely tank his value for the upcoming season.
According to CBS Sports, “Jacobs has teased his discontent with the Raiders all offseason, saying as far back as April that he hadn’t been around the team in months and wasn’t planning to return anytime soon.”
Being that the Raiders are fully aware that Jacobs is planning to skip all of training camp and pre-season, The most cold hearted move would be to wait until every other team’s roster is set before pulling the tender. That means they can offer Jacobs much less than the $10 million dollar tender thats on the table now.
For a super star running back that won’t see much of the field in pre season anyway, holding out until the season, could cost him a third of his contract. But when you are in the locker room and you look to your left and the guy next to you is not a pro bowler and is making almost double of what you are being offered, It’s like a slap in the face.
So why would the Raiders play such a cut throat game with one of the leagues best? It seems the “Silver and Black” would spend more money on a kicker than their prize running back. Daniel Carlson has a four year $18 million dollar extension with a $4 million dollar signing bonus. I’m just saying…
Things are getting tricky in todays declining running back market. Let’s hope the Raiders come to a sensible decision before it’s too late.
