Eichel’s Explosive 36-Point Start Powers Knights’ Push in Western Conference
Eichel’s achievement makes him a contender for receiving the Hart Trophy, an honor no Golden Knights player has ever received. Coach Bruce Cassidy notes how Eichel’s prowess has evolved into leadership, stating, “I feel like he’s more of a voice now, and that translates on the ice,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The Knights hold a 15-7-3 record, just three points behind Western Conference rivals the Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota the Wild.
While they place first in the Pacific Division and their offense clicks, the Knights’ defensive struggles continue. A brutal 6-0 loss to Utah – including four goals in the first period – highlighted their weak spots. They rank fourth in goals in five-on-five situations, averaging 3.12 per game.
Regardless, goalie Adin Hill has hit his stride. Hill has bounced back impressively after a rough patch where he gave up three or more goals in eight of his first ten games. Over his last six starts, he’s posted a substantial .923 save percentage and gone 4-1-1.
The upcoming NHL 4 Nations Face-Off could pull several Knights from the lineup. Team USA has already grabbed Eichel, knowing his impressive stats will boost their offense. Coach Cassidy joins Team Canada’s staff, and Hill keeps moving closer to national team consideration. Both Shea Theodore and Alex Pietrangelo might make Team Canada’s roster. Sweden may consider William Karlsson for their team.
