Las Vegas Aces Unlock Another Mind-Blowing Victory
The two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces are starting their season much like last year, with their quest for another ring! Even though the Aces had a slow start in the second game of the 2024 season against the Los Angeles Sparks, The Aces proved that it’s not how you start, but how you finish.
Las Vegas Aces Pull Another Victory
Both Jackie Young and A’ja Wilson scored 22 points and finished with double-doubles to lead the Las Vegas Aces to an 89-82 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday. With a slow start, The Aces were able to pull it together and show why they are the two-time defending champions.
Young hit eight of 18 shots, and was four for nine from behind the arc. She added 11 assists and six rebounds. Wilson hit nine of 20 shots with a three-pointer, grabbed 10 boards, and added three steals. Kelsey Plum made three 3-pointers and scored 17 with five assists and three steals. Alysha Clark scored 13 on 5-for-7 shooting with three 3s. Las Vegas had a slow start with only 16 points in the first quarter but pulled away in the second quarter by outscoring the Sparks 26-15.
The Los Angeles Sparks Couldn’t Do Enough To Win
The Sparks gave a good fight, but it just wasn’t enough to give the Aces their first L. According to AIscore.com Las Vegas Aces and Los Angeles Sparks played 78 Games since 2005. Among them, the Las Vegas Aces won 39 games, and the Los Angeles Sparks won 38.
Dearica Hamby finished with 29 points to lead Los Angeles. Hamby hit 12 of 16 shots from the floor and five for 11 from behind the arc. She added nine rebounds and three steals. Lexie Brown had 16 points, Kia Nurse hit 13 points and Rickea Jackson came off the bench with 13 points.
Nurse scored half of LA’s 18 first-quarter points to lead the Sparks to a two-point lead. Nurse, who scored 23 points in LA’s 92-81 loss to the visiting Atlanta Dream in the season opener, sank all four of her shots with a 3-pointer.

Las Vegas led by as many as 12 on three occasions in a 29-point third quarter, taking a 71-59 lead.The Aces opened the season with an 89-80 victory over the Phoenix Mercury. Las Vegas will host Phoenix for a second time on Tuesday inside The Michelob Ultra Arena in the third game of four straight at home to begin the season.
