Los Angeles Lakers Making A Big Move To Las Vegas
The Los Angeles Lakers were originally called the Minneapolis Lakers. They played their first NBA game in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1947. According to sportingnews.com, they moved to Los Angeles before the 1960-61 season.
Los Angeles Lakers Experienced Early Struggles
Many people thought the Lakers were founded in Minneapolis, but on the contrary, the franchise started in Detroit (in the NBL) as the Detroit Gems. According to yardbarker.com “This was in 1946, and the Gems finished the season with a horrid 4-40 record.” They moved to Minneapolis from 1947 to 1959. Even though The Lakers won five titles in Minneapolis, they still struggled in attendance.
The Lakers Move To Los Angeles
So the move to Los Angeles was the best thing for the Lakers. They have won 17 Championships, five in Minneapolis and 12 in Los Angeles. I’ve been a fan of the Lakers since they played at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. With players like Magic Johnson, Bob McAdoo, Kurt Rambis, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Michael Cooper, and Jamal (Silk) Wilkes with the funny signature shot, to name a few, the showtime Lakers were great for the City of Los Angeles.
However, it put a huge target on the purple and gold jerseys. Every opposing fan would chant beat LA. as they quickly became universal rivals to everyone. Let’s face it, the Lakers are a staple in Los Angeles.
Lebron Making Big Moves In Las Vegas

Lebron James is focusing on more than just playing basketball. He has big plans for Las Vegas.
James has been very vocal about becoming an expansion team owner. He wants to bring a team to Las Vegas, so that would put a dark cloud on the idea of the Lakers coming to Vegas. Dailymail.co.uk reports that “Lebron James announces he plans to buy an NBA franchise in Sin City after becoming league’s first ever billionaire active player”.
